INTRODUCTION
Trials have shown that Tasco® has positive effects on carcass characteristics of different breeds of cattle. A large scale, commercial feedlot trial in Southern Texas was conducted to verify if Tasco® would have the same effects on meat quality grades of finished Mexican steers (Brahman crossed cattle), traditionally recognized as being more difficult to achieve higher grades compared to Hereford or Angus crossed cattle.
RESULTS
From this experiment it was observed that the addition of Tasco®to finishing Mexican beef cattle ration improved the quality grade of the carcass.
CONCLUSION
Results from this trial corroborate previous findings. The inclusion of Tasco®in the finishing ration had positive effects on the carcass characteristics increasing the overall quality grade.
The addition of Tasco® to the diet of beef cattle in the finishing period has an economic justification since quality of meat is an important factor determining the market value of a beef carcass. A premium is paid for high quality carcasses.
