INTRODUCTION
A study was conducted at the Tarleton State University Swine Unit, Stephenville, Texas, to observe the effects of Tasco® on piglet performance during nursing and early growth.

RESULTS
When piglet total weight gain at weaning was calculated, piglets from sows supplemented with Tasco® gained significantly more body weight compared to control treated animals (10.2 versus 9.44 lbs, P<0.0001).

CONCLUSION
The supplementation of Tasco® in the diet of sows positively affects piglet performance during lactation. Piglets from sows fed a diet containing Tasco® gain significantly more weight from birth to weaning and are significantly heavier at weaning.

This study indicates that sows fed Tasco® during gestation and lactation produce piglets that have a growth advantage over control treated sows. Heavier piglets at weaning are usually a production advantage and larger, heavier piglets generally have increased viability and less health problems. Further studies need to be conducted to collect health and mortality data to quantify the economic advantage of Tasco® administration on young pig growth and development.
