INTRODUCTION
A study was conducted at the Colorado Quality Research, Inc. in Colorado, USA using broiler chickens, housed under summer heat stress conditions, to determine the potential of Tasco® to improve productivity and growth performance.
RESULTS
The addition of heat stress significantly depressed the weight gain of growing broilers. The addition of Tasco® at 2.0% of the ration restored the weight gain of heat-stressed broilers almost to levels observed in the non heat-stressed groups.
CONCLUSION
Tasco® administration improved growth performance under heat stress conditions as measured by weight gain almost comparable to non heat-stress control levels.
Another study was conducted at the same facility to evaluate the effects of Tasco® on performance of turkey raised under heat stress conditions.
RESULTS
In the heat stress group, administration of Tasco® trended to improve feed conversion compared to the control group fed the ration without Tasco®
(P< 0.099).
CONCLUSION
Tasco® treatment resulted in improved growth rate performance, with a tendency to improve feed conversion under heat stress conditions.
These potential improvements directly influence the cost of production and translate into increased profits (or lower losses), particularly under heat stress conditions. These results justify larger scale research trials to determine the most efficacious use of Tasco® in commercial turkey production. |
